Psoas & Hind End Soreness Series

The leading cause of Stifle, Hock & SI soreness is shortened strides.

Horses (and riders) are designed to take full strides – it is the only way our body balances itself in both muscles mass and making sure the joints are properly lubricated.

The leading causes of shortened strides are:

  • Travelling on the forehand (which is rider caused)
  • Rider Saddle Fit
  • Not understanding your horses stride length and taking away the space they need to complete their turn or ask them to turn the wrong shape (round vs oval and the variations in depth)
  • Not understanding where your horse’s vertical center of balance is
  • Not understanding your horse’s strength or lack of through the tibia, femur & gaskin group
